Hue, Value & Intensity

Many people misunderstand the difference between hue, value and intensity. Hue is another name for color. For example the hue of Target's logo is red, the hue of broccoli is green and the hue of a polar bear is white. Though there may be many variations of the color within each of the items mentioned, the overall hue is true. The difference between the lightness and darkness of each of the colors is its value. Value is often stated as how light or how dark a color is. Pastel pink has a lighter value of red than burgundy. Pastel pink has much more white mixed into the red hue than burgundy and thus has a higher value. Not only does value matter with hue, but so does intensity. Intensity, or chroma, is the brightness or dullness of a color. Neon green has a much higher intensity than olive green. It is a much brighter color in comparison. Remember, when talking about value and intensity be sure to always use a comparison. In the diagram see all three in comparison to each other.

Deodorant Getting on your Clothes?

Are you frustrated with deodorant getting on your tops? This is no way to start a day off. Sometimes it feels like nothing will work unless you decide to change your top. Instead of changing your whole outfit, give this a try.
Here is a quick and easy way to fix this little annoyance: take another part of your top, use it like a cloth & rub it wiping off the deodorant. Magic! The deodorant disappears and you don't have a nasty water stain afterwards nor do you have to change your entire outfit.
Another secret I've found is using anti-bacterial hand sanitizer instead of deodorant. It kills the bacteria that causes body odor. I've even used it during an intense yoga practice. It did wonders for me and costs much less than deodorant.

Designing for Celebrity Mommies

The new style everywhere is the baby doll/pregnant mom look. Many stars have gotten pregnant these past couple of years so designers have created new styles for these demands and are passing on the trends. New celebrity mommies include: Halle Berry, Katie Holmes, Jennifer Lopez, Julia Roberts, Nicole Richie, Jessica Alba and many more. Some of these looks are manageable for everyday wear; I enjoy my Kensie baby doll jacket with big black buttons and 3/4 puffy sleeves similar to the one in the photo. Be sure that this new style does not give you the bulge where you don't want it. Keep the attention on the places you want to accentuate. Congratulations to all the new mommies this year!
